Birmingham born producer/remixer/DJ Tom Flynn has had a more than varied musical upbringing. Beginning his musical career from an early age, it was quite clear that he would make his passion for music into something more than just a hobby. Searching out rare cassettes and vinyl of old soul and funk records was to lead him into a world that most kids had no idea about at 8 years old, but this constant search for the 'next hot record' would undoubtedly come back to help him in his dj stakes years down the line.
Move forward to 13 years old and his love affair with house music was born. "I had heard some guy on Radio1 at night in the car with my mom and dad and had to find out more" says Flynn who would later discover that that nightly radio show was Pete Tong's Essential Selection (A man who would later sign Tom to his BB Label).
Beginning the journey at trance, and swiftly moving into the 'soulful/funky' House world in the mid 90's, it was here that Flynn engrossed himself with anything with a 4/4 beat. Needless to say, turntables were purchased and practised on religously, before setting out on a DJ'ing circuit playing alongside some of house musics Biggest names - Andy Ward and Benji Candalario to name a couple.
A course in music production soon followed with him soon finding that DJ'ing would take a backseat to really delve into this new area. Being schooled by Lee Fisher of Mother fame, Flynn soon became enthralled at the possibilities of creating your own music.....
Forward to now, where he has recently signed to Pete Tong's BB Records, as well as remixing for Andy Caldwell and Gram'ma Funk, you could say the future is very bright for this House crazed Producer. "To just have people on the other side of the world, sitting in their bedroom loving MY music, just like i used to do growing up, was and still is my main goal, it's never been about being 'Johnny Money Bags', it's about making good music!" |
